Studdiford Technical Solutions, LLC Selected for Planning and Design of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport’s New Inline Checked Baggage Inspection System

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport

Studdiford Technical Solutions, LLC (STS) was selected by the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) to design a fully automated checked baggage inspection system (CBIS). STS will help PMGAA to optimize checked baggage security screening and automate sortation to reduce manual bag handling by integrating security screening seamlessly into baggage handling operations. This enhanced system will create added efficiency for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staff.

This program supports continued growth at the airport, including an airside terminal expansion, currently under construction, which will enhance the passenger experience. This is one of many exciting projects at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, which is developing an international aerospace center, emerging as a cargo operations hotbed, and driving economic growth in the area. Currently, more than 40 companies operate at the airport, generating more than $1.8 billion in annual economic activity.

“We are excited to be continuing our relationship with Phoenix Mesa Gateway, after a very successful baggage handling system expansion project a few years ago,” said STS President Larry Studdiford. “This project will be a culmination of those efforts, enhanced by a partnership with TSA to drive efficiency and security for the traveling public.”

STS will partner with DWL Architects + Planners Inc., an architecture and planning firm headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, to support infrastructure design.  The TSA is also a key partner in this effort, providing funding and design approval for system compliance with TSA’s Planning Guidelines and Design Standards (PGDS).
