Project Description:
The Denver International Airport (DEN) TSA Recapitalization and Baggage Handling System (BHS) Modernization program is a replacement of existing Checked Baggage Inspection Systems (CBIS) equipment. The work includes the removal of the 31 existing inline CTX explosive detection screening (EDS) machines and replacement with 25 new, more advanced EDS machines to increase the overall bag screening capacity. The BHS Modernization includes replacing BHS equipment, such as high-speed diverters, transport conveyors, power turns, merges, motors, gearboxes, automatic tag readers, and other equipment that have exceeded their life expectancy (20 years).
As an essential member of the PCL Construction Design-Build (DB) team, Studdiford Technical Solutions, LLC (STS) provides BHS subject matter expertise, including design reviews (for both design and construction documentation), independent fee estimates for BHS construction costs, factory acceptance test (FAT) participation, TSA liaison support, and makes recommendations for RFI and submittal responses. The design-build project includes completion of the design and a full turnkey BHS installation of all checked baggage security screening terminal modules, the new CBIS interfaces with the existing Level 5.5 system, and the integration with the Consolidated Checked Baggage Resolution Area (C-CBRA) individual carrier system (ICS), which links together the checked baggage security screening terminal modules.
