The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) secured nearly $100 million in federal funding during fiscal year 2023 to expand infrastructure, improve passenger circulation, and upgrade baggage handling capabilities. Bradley International Airport (BDL) received funds to construct a new three-level concourse. The top floor of the new concourse is usable office space. The mid floor is the new concourse for the passengers and 10 new gates. The new in-line Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) will improve the passenger experience by relocating baggage screening operations from the ticketing area to the apron level. This will free up valuable space in the ticketing hall, improve passenger flow, and provide airlines with a more efficient check-in area.

Whiting-Turner (WT) has been retained by CAA as the General Contractor (GC) to oversee the entire program. In turn, WT engaged Studdiford Technical Solutions, LLC (STS) as the baggage handling system (BHS) Subject Matter Experts (SME), providing a wide range of service including quality assurance, construction management, construction administration, testing and commissioning, TSA coordination, and project closeout.

STS supported WT by overseeing the installation and commissioning of a new four (4) Explosives Detection System (EDS) unit CBIS, recontrol and integration of nine (9) ticket counter and six (6) curbside subsystems, one (1) oversized baggage subsystem, and one (1) new make-up unit.
