As passenger traffic at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) continues to see steady growth, the Central Terminal Area Expansion (CTAE) Project looks to expand gate capacity at both Terminal A and Terminal C. The construction of new concourse pier extensions at each terminal will utilize modular construction to streamline the process. These pier extensions will also house new lane-based Early Bag Storage (EBS) systems for the Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) in each Terminal. In addition to the pier extensions, the Terminal C portion of the project also includes the renovation and expansion of the ticketing hall, security checkpoint, baggage claim hall, and related support facilities. The existing inbound claim systems on the concourse level will be demolished and new claim systems installed in the new ramp-level bag claim hall. The Terminal C effort will also replace one of three aging Checked Baggage Handling Systems (CBIS) with a new, modern, TSA-compliant CBIS.

Studdiford Technical Solutions (STS) was engaged to provide Program Management services for American Airlines (AA) throughout the design, procurement, and construction phases of the project. STS’s responsibilities include oversight of the TSA submittal and approval process, coordination between the BHS and building design teams, management of submittals and RFIs, and change order administration. The project also requires a complex phasing plan that includes the addition of new sort pier destinations, temporary configuration changes, and relocation of several Motor Control Panels (MCPs), all of which must be accomplished without impacting operations. Due to the program’s complexity, large number of stakeholders, and to minimize the impact on baggage operations during construction, STS is managing all BHS-related stakeholder coordination and project phasing.
